How to make a hem with an iron-on tape?

Comment faire un ourlet avec un ruban thermocollant ?

Our curtains are available in 2 heights: 1 standard height of 280cm and 1 large height of 350cm.

The standard for ceiling height varies between 2.50 meters (recent accommodation) and 2.80 meters for older housing, with a few exceptions (noble floor of Haussmann or Loft buildings).

Impossible not to find the size of suitable curtains: the height of our curtains being adjustable using an iron-on tape provided with each curtain/sheer. Make a hem to your curtain up to your choice, the finish is perfect, without any seam to make!

Prepare your curtain or sheer curtain for the hem

Before carrying out the hem, we advise you to iron your curtain to defeat it from the folds that could have been created in the packaging, then to suspend it a few days to allow the material to relax.

A first machine washing or a first dry fabric care can also shrink the curtain, especially if it is made up of natural fibers (linen, wool, cotton, etc.). Prefer a first fabric care before making a hem or add a few centimeters to the hem to anticipate a possible shrinkage.

Make a hem with the iron-on tape

There are two types of iron-on tapes: one with protective paper, thicker, it is mainly used for curtains, the other without protective paper, finer, it is particularly suitable for sheer curtains.
The installation technique is slightly different depending on the type of iron-on tape.

With paper

- Decide the height of your hem
- Make an iron with an iron at the desired height
- Place the ribbon at the bottom of the curtain, glue on the back of the fabric
- Pass the strip using the iron then remove the protective paper
- then fold the fabric to the desired height of the hem and go back again

Without paper

- Decide the height of your hem
- Make an iron with an iron at the desired height
- Place the ribbon at the desired height level
- Fold the fabric to the desired height of the hem and iron
