How to clean a fabric sofa?

Comment nettoyer un canapé en tissu ?

Cleaning a fabric sofa involves three steps: regular vacuuming (once a week), targeted stain removal with Marseille soap or baking soda, and deep cleaning 2 to 3 times a year with a steam cleaner or textile shampoo. The method depends on the fabric (cotton, linen, velvet, synthetic) and the type of stain.

According to ARCAA, a sofa accumulates an average of 12,000 dust mites per gram of dust. Regular maintenance is a matter of hygiene as much as aesthetics.

How to maintain your sofa daily?

Vacuum the cushions and seat once a week with the brush attachment. Flip and pat down removable cushions to restore their plumpness. Wipe the armrests and backrest with a damp cloth.

If your sofa has removable covers, wash them in the machine at 30°C every 2-3 months.

How to remove a stain from a fabric sofa?

Rule #1: act immediately. The more a stain dries, the more it sets in.

Coffee or tea stain — Blot with a cloth soaked in cold water + white vinegar.

Wine stain — Absorb with fine salt, leave for 15 min, clean with sparkling water.

Grease stain — Sprinkle with Sommières clay or baking soda, leave for 2 hours, vacuum.

General stain — Damp Marseille soap, rinse with a damp cloth, dry immediately.

How to deep clean?

Steam cleaner — Most effective method. Disinfects, eliminates dust mites. Suitable for cotton, polyester. Avoid on velvet and silk.

Baking soda — Sprinkle, leave for 30 min to 1 hour, vacuum. Deodorizes and sanitizes. Suitable for all fabrics.

Textile shampooing — Most complete cleaning, 1 to 2 times a year.
