How to make a hem with an iron-on tape?

Comment faire un ourlet avec un ruban thermocollant ?

Our curtains are available in 2 heights: 1 standard height of 280cm and 2 tall 300cm and 350cm.

The standard for ceiling height varies between 2.50 meters (recent housing) and 2.80 meters for older housing, with a few exceptions (noble floor of Haussmannian buildings or loft).

It's impossible not to find the right curtain size: the height of our curtains is adjustable using iron-on tape supplied with each curtain/sheer curtain. Hem your curtain to the height of your choice, the finish is perfect, no sewing required!

Prepare your curtain or sheer for hemming

Before hemming, we advise you to iron your curtain to remove any creases that may have been created in the packaging, then hang it up for a few days to allow the material to relax.

A first machine wash or dry cleaning can also cause the curtain to shrink, particularly if it is made of natural fibers (linen, wool, cotton, etc.). Prefer a first maintenance before hemming or add a few centimeters to the hem to anticipate possible shrinkage.

Make a hem with the iron-on tape

There are two types of iron-on tape: one with protective paper, thicker, it is mainly used for curtains, the other without protective paper, thinner, it is particularly suitable for curtains.

The installation technique is slightly different depending on the type of iron-on tape.

With paper

- Decide your hem height
- Make a crease with an iron to the desired height
- Place the ribbon at the bottom of the curtain, glue side against the back of the fabric.
- Go over the strip using the iron then remove the protective paper
- Then fold the fabric to the desired height of the hem and iron again

Paperless

- Decide your hem height
- Make a crease with an iron to the desired height
- Place the tape at the desired height

- Fold the fabric to the desired height of the hem and iron.
