How to choose the material (linen, cotton, velvet) for a panel curtain according to the desired atmosphere?
To choose the material, refer to the desired effect and the orientation of the room. The linen is a natural and airy fabric which brings an authentic and refined touch; it lets light pass through and is very resistant. The cotton, especially in gauze, offers a soft and matte appearance; it creates a natural and cozy atmosphere and its slightly crumpled effect gives relief to the panel while allowing light to filter through. The velvet is the thickest: it warms the atmosphere, provides good thermal and sound insulation and gives a chic and cocooning appearance. So, favor linen or cotton in bright rooms and velvet in a bedroom or living room that you want to make warm and isolated.
Are panel curtains suitable for frequently opened patio doors?
Yes. Panel curtains are attached using clip rings that slide easily over the rod, allowing you to completely clear the opening of a patio door. On the Shadow linen model, Madura specifies that the number and spacing of the clip rings determine the fabric's drape: fewer rings and wider spacing give a soft, bohemian drape, while more closely spaced rings provide a structured look.
The panels can be combined to cover a large width and move easily thanks to the rings; for a panel, the brand recommends spacing the rings 10 to 14 cm apart. Thus, they are suitable for bay windows and patio doors that open often, because they are easy to handle without blocking the passage.
How to install panel curtains with clip rings without damaging the fabric?
The clip rings are easy to apply and do not damage the fabric. Simply calculate their location, attach the clips to the top edge of the panel and hang the rings on the rod; this method allows you to transform any piece of fabric into a curtain without damaging it. By regularly spacing the clips, you obtain a flat or slightly pleated panel depending on the desired effect.. Clip rings are particularly suitable for panel curtains, as they provide a clean finish and allow the fabric to be easily removed for cleaning.
What if the panel length doesn't fall exactly as expected?
Madura provides a iron-on tape with each curtain or sheer to adjust the height seamlessly. Before hemming, iron the curtain and hang it for a few days so that the material relaxes. If the panel is made of natural fibers, schedule a first wash or add a few centimeters to anticipate slight shrinkage. To make the hem, decide on the height, mark a fold with an iron, place the iron-on strip at the bottom of the curtain (glue against the reverse side), iron to secure then fold the fabric over and iron again. This method offers a perfect seamless finish and allows the length to be precisely adjusted.
Do linen, cotton and velvet have the same drape when used in panels?
No. The linen has a fluid and natural fall; it is light and slightly textured. The cotton, in particular cotton gauze, is characterized by a soft and slightly wrinkled drape which diffuses light for a cozy atmosphere. The velvet, much thicker, offers a dense and structured drape which gives a sophisticated appearance and ensures good thermal and sound insulation. Depending on the desired effect and the orientation of the room, choose a light fabric (linen or cotton) for an airy drape and a heavy fabric (velvet) for an opulent and insulating drape.
